A great pick for larger homes with a mix of carpets and hard floors where deep cleaning matters more than lightweight portability, but skip it if you need to carry it up stairs often or want bombproof build quality.

The Kenmore 81414 earns praise for its strong suction and ability to revive neglected carpets, often outperforming older uprights. You need to accept some design tradeoffs like a top-heavy build that tips easily and attachments that don't match the sturdiness of older Kenmore models.
Loved by buyers
- •The suction is genuinely strong, and the bagged system traps dust and dander without releasing clouds when emptying.
- •Switching from carpet to bare floor is quick with a button or pedal, and the long wand and hose reach ceilings and under furniture.
- •The included Pet PowerMate attachment pulls embedded pet hair and sand from stairs and upholstery more effectively than many uprights.
Buyer concerns
- •The canister is top-heavy and topples over during storage or when pulled, a hassle in tight spaces.
- •The powerhead often disconnects when angled under low furniture, leaving you to fish it out.
- •The unit runs hot during extended use, which raises safety concerns in homes with kids or pets.
Frequently Asked Questions
How well does it handle pet hair on furniture and stairs?+
The included Pet PowerMate attachment is a standout for pulling embedded hair and sand from upholstery and carpeted stairs, though the canister's weight makes stair cleaning a bit of a workout.
Is the HEPA filter effective for allergy sufferers?+
Yes, the triple HEPA system traps fine dust and dander effectively, and several owners noticed a real difference in room air quality.
How long does a bag last, and are replacements expensive?+
In an average 1,800 sq ft home, one bag lasts about a month with normal use. Generic bags are readily available and far cheaper than OEM ones.
Can the brush roll handle long hair without constant cleaning?+
No, the brush roll isn't anti-tangle, so if you have long-haired residents or pets, you'll need to cut away wrapped hair regularly to keep it spinning.
